"In the beginning, Brookville Locomotive Co. was a Ford dealership and simply affixed rail wheels to a Ford truck.This quickly evolved into a business, using "power units" (unfinished chassis of trucks or tractors) and adding their own underframe, railwheels, and chain drive. During the early 30's, Brookville started building entire locomotives, using outside vendors for engines and transmissions. They relied on mechanical transmissions early on, but they primarily use torque converters since the 50's. Most recently, they have been working toward developing a line of Diesel/electrics. They have recently changed their name to Brookville Mining Equipment Co." (1)
