This 1912 sepia tone scene shows the popular beachfront Long Island Railroad station at Rockaway Park, on the outer line of sand dunes along the south coast of Long Island. This particular sand dune, known as Rockaway Beach, is only a few miles from Jamaica, yet the atmosphere is completely different from the hustle of Metropolitan Queens. At right is a news stand and lunch counter for beach goers.
